Chateau d’Armailhac 5eme Cru Classe, Pauillac 2023 6x75cl
Château d’Armailhac is part of the Château Mouton Rothscild stable and is a wine we follow every year as it is always well priced and an excellent wine to invest in (see the table below), as well... as to add to your cellar. The 2023 vintage is no exception with price 15% down on the 2022 vintage and very favourable reviews from the critics.
Ch. d'Armailhac blurs the lines between superb value for drinking and equally tremendous investment value: it would take pride of place in any cellar, whilst it should also quietly delivers returns to those who buy it. Please see Liv-ex graph below for the lower scored comparative 2015 vintage which is up 74% since it’s en primeur release price. Château d’Armailhac is not to be missed, everyone should add it to their holdings of fine wines.
“There’s a powdery and open texture to this red. Full-bodied and layered with a pretty and weightless texture. Blackcurrants and blueberries and an orange-peel undertone. Velvety texture at the end. 70% cabernet sauvignon, 15% merlot, 13% cabernet franc and 2% petit verdot.” 96-97 points, James Suckling
“Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2023 d'Armailhac sings of black raspberries, wild strawberries, and tilled soil with hints of dried herbs and wet slate. The medium-bodied palate is lively and elegantly styled, with plush tannins supporting delicate red and black fruit layers, culminating in a well-sustained finish. Very impressive! The blend is 70% Cabernet Sauvignon (the highest ever percentage for d'Armailhac), 15% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot, with pH 3.75. The alcohol is 13.5%.” 93-95 Points Lisa Perrotti-Brown
“High Cabernet, as is the story of the vintage on the Left Bank. A wine that also continues the new story of Armailhac following serious investment in vineyards and cellar, and technical director Lucie Lauilhé. Bright and vivid from the first moment, layered cassis, crushed mint, liqourice root, crushed rocks, an excellently precise, structured and textured Armailhac. Love it. Harvest September 7 to 30. 80ha in production, 50% new oak barrels for ageing.” 94 points, Jane Anson
“The 2023 d'Armailhac is an attractive effort, bursting with aromas of cherries, raspberries, licorice and cigar wrapper. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and succulent, with a pretty core of fruit, sweet powdery tannins and lively acids, it's a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot—which is a rather high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon for this address.” 91-93 Points, Neal Martin

Chateau Lynch Bages 5eme Cru Classe, Pauillac 2021 300cl
Château Lynch-Bages is one of the most recognised estates of Pauillac and has been owned by the Cazes family since the 1930s. The property sits on the Bages plateau, where deep gravel soils provide... ideal conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon and help produce wines with the structure and character typical of the appellation.
The vineyard is planted predominantly with Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Careful vineyard management and precise winemaking have helped establish Lynch Bages as one of the most consistent producers in the Médoc.
The 2021 vintage in Bordeaux required careful work in the vineyard and a measured approach in the cellar. At Lynch Bages the result is a wine that reflects the strengths of the estate, showing purity of fruit, balance and classic Pauillac character.
Château Lynch Bages 2021 tasting notes
Château Lynch Bages 2021 shows aromas of cassis, blackberry and red plum, with notes of cedar, graphite and subtle spice.
On the palate the wine is structured and refined, with fresh dark fruit supported by firm but well integrated tannins. The balance and precision of the wine give it the ability to develop further complexity in bottle.
Large format
This 300cl double magnum offers excellent ageing potential. Wines from Pauillac are known for evolving gracefully with time, and in large formats the wine matures more slowly, allowing the structure and classic Cabernet Sauvignon character to develop gradually.

Chateau Lynch Bages 5eme Cru Classe, Pauillac 2023 6x75cl
Château Lynch Bages has made a crackingly good, highly rated 2023 down in price by 34% from last year making it the lowest priced Lynch on the market. When we all tasted it in Bordeaux at the end of... last month we were very impressed with its elegance, vibrancy and intense rich berry fruit flavours – this will be a great Lynch Bages if you are able to get some - Liv-ex again says ‘if you are lucky enough to get an allocation’…
Lynch Bages has been under the stewardship of the legendary Jean-Michel Cazes who sadly died last summer, with him at the helm the Estate has become one of the leading wines of Pauillac with a global following. A tribute to a great man.
"Blackberry, black cherry, crushed stone and graphite. Lead pencil, too. It’s full-bodied with juicy, chewy tannins. Vertical and layered with lovely length. Quite plush. Chewy tannins at the end. Cabernet sauvignon driven. Showing excellent potential." 97-98 points, James Suckling
"A Lynch Bages that speaks more to the property's style than it does the vintage, this is a deep, shiny purple in the glass and has a powerful, black-fruit laden nose. Hints of nutmeg and liquorice come through, but the purity of cassis here is very impressive. Broad-shouldered on the palate, this is a dense, chewy vin de garde that will need at least a decade in bottle before approaching. Powerful, ripe yet never overblown, this is the essence of Pauillac, vertical, spicy and impressive. A wine with a real sense of place, this is a brilliant example of this château's unique style. Superb." 96-98 points, Thomas Parker MW
"Concentrated, intense and muscular, not a word that I have used very often in 2023 Bordeaux. You get a deeply-rooted tannic grip, with soot, squid ink, cassis, blackberry, bilberry, liqourice root, slate scrap, pummice stone and mint. Lynch Bages seems to be wrought from a different place than it was a decade ago, impressive, powerful Pauillac, with an eye on long ageing. 75% new oak, Jean-Charles Cazes owner, Nicolas Labenne technical director." 96 points, Jane Anson
"The 2023 Lynch-Bages is a dark, brooding wine. In so many vintages, Lynch-Bages is a wine of sensuality, but in 2023, it is quite the powerhouse. Formidable tannins wrap around a core of black fruit, spice, menthol, licorice and gravel. This is a somber, introspective Lynch-Bages with a ton of Cabernet Sauvignon character. I can't wait to taste this from bottle. 2033-2073" 94-97 points, Antonio Galloni
"The 2023 Lynch-Bages takes some time to really settle, so I gave it 5-10 minutes in the glass. On the nose, glossy black fruit mixes with touches of cassis, graphite, violets and blood orange, perhaps demonstrating more horsepower than I anticipated. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, saturated tannins. There is a lovely symmetry to this Pauillac (not unlike Latour), armed with a cashmere texture and plenty of backbone on the finish, even though I would not describe it as a "grippy" Lynch-Bages. There’s plenty of graphite character on the aftertaste. Excellent." 93-95 points, Neal Martin
"As usual one of the chunkier, broader-shouldered wines of the Médoc, the 2023 Lynch-Bages exhibits aromas of dark berries and cassis mingled with pencil shavings, licorice and pipe tobacco, framed by creamy new oak. Medium to full-bodied, rich and layered, it's deep, concentrated and generously extracted, with plenty of youthfully chewy tannin to carry it along in the cellar. The 2023 is a blend of 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot." 93-95 points, William Kelley
