Domaine Evremond: A New Benchmark for English Sparkling Wine

The story of English sparkling wine has taken an exciting new turn with the creation of Domaine Evremond, a pioneering venture between Champagne Taittinger and UK wine specialists Hatch Mansfield. This partnership, launched in 2015, marks the first time a historic Champagne house has invested in the English wine industry—a clear endorsement of the growing prestige and potential of English sparkling wine.

A Vineyard with Champagne Pedigree

Located near the picturesque village of Chilham in Kent, Domaine Evremond was established after an 18-month search for the ideal site. The vineyard is planted on classic chalk soils, with south and west-facing slopes at altitudes below 100 metres—conditions that mirror those found in the Champagne region and are considered ideal for premium sparkling wine production.

A Name Rooted in History

Domaine Evremond is named after Charles de Saint-Évremond, a 17th-century French writer and poet credited with popularising Champagne in the English court of Charles II. He was laid to rest in Westminster Abbey, symbolising the Anglo-French connection that continues in this modern-day collaboration.

State-of-the-Art Winery with a Sustainable Edge

The winery at Domaine Evremond, designed by renowned architect Giovanni Pace, blends into the rolling Kent countryside with a three-level structure, two-thirds of which is underground. This gravity-fed facility includes temperature-stable chalk cellars capable of ageing up to 1.5 million bottles—a testament to the estate’s long-term vision for English sparkling wine excellence.

Expert Viticulture Meets Local Wisdom

The vineyard development began in 2017 with further plantings in 2020. Today, 62 hectares are under vine, planted with the traditional Champagne varieties: 55% Pinot Noir, 35% Chardonnay, and 10% Pinot Meunier. The partnership with the Gaskain family—renowned local fruit growers—has ensured that the viticulture benefits from generations of knowledge about Kent's unique microclimate and soils.

Focused on Quality from Grape to Glass

Every aspect of production at Domaine Evremond is centred on quality. Grapes are hand-harvested, and the vines are pruned intensively to strengthen their root systems a process that slightly delays full production but enhances long-term quality. The winery is equipped with two 8-ton presses, advanced temperature control, and a gravity-fed system to handle fruit with the utmost care.

The First Edition: Now Available

The eagerly awaited First Edition of Domaine Evremond is now available, marking a major milestone for the estate and for English sparkling wine. This debut cuvée, officially released in April 2025, reflects the culmination of years of investment, expertise, and ambition.
