Les Travées from Alain Jaume highlights the appellation’s potential, with grapes grown on limestone-rich slopes at elevations up to 350 metres. This higher altitude adds freshness and structure to the wine, while the Mediterranean climate ensures full ripeness and depth of flavour.
In the glass, it presents a deep garnet-red colour with expressive aromas of fresh red and black fruits. The palate is rich and fleshy, supported by well-integrated tannins. The finish is long and textured, showing classic notes of spice, menthol, and dark chocolate that echo the warmth and complexity of its Rhône Valley roots.
Fermented and aged in concrete vats for 12 to 14 months, this vintage retains purity and precision. Drink now or cellar for up to six years.

This property is an incredible find. It sits in amongst the Chianti Rufina consortium and lucky for us - is not registered as such, it is therefore listed at the most remarkable price point. Head... over to Majestic and see Chianti Rufina wines listed from £20+ per bottle. Chianti Rufina is one of the most prestigious and age-worthy Chiantis. Rufina wines often have more elegance and aging potential and is historically considered one of the most significant in Tuscany.
This has been aged in French oak for 24 months and 18 months in bottle and is also therefore considered a Riserva. This Toscana Rosso blend of Sangiovese (80%) and Merlot (20%) giving the blend gorgeous rich and dark fruit with that merlot soft velvety texture. I have ordered myself in large quantities - it has power, spice, freshness and bags of fruit and is wonderfully harmonious after time spent in oak and bottle, the 2022 is perfect to enjoy now. It doesn't get better in terms of value for money.
Tasting notes -
Chianti Rufina comes from cooler hillside vineyards northeast of Florence at the foot of the Apennines, which gives the wine incredible freshness and structure. Made mostly from Sangiovese, it has beautiful cherry, violet, and spice notes with vibrant acidity and the merlot gives it a richness and velvety texture. This is classic refined and elegant Tuscany with body and spice, the 2022 is perfect now and an exceptional food wine. 13.5%

Chateau Coutet Premier Cru Classe, Barsac 2019 12×37.5cl

About Chateau Coutet:
The estate, with a rich history dating back to the 13th century, is located in the Barsac appellation of the Sauternes region. It was one of the first vineyards in Sauternes, beginning wine production in 1643. The property was acknowledged by Thomas Jefferson as "the best Sauternes in Barsac."
Owned by the Baly family since 1977, Chateau Coutet is known for its luscious and elegant Sauternes. The vineyards, covering 35 hectares, are planted predominantly with Sémillon, along with Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle.
The unique terroir of the region, along with the influence of noble rot (botrytis cinerea), contributes to the distinctive sweet and concentrated flavor of the wine.
2019 Vintage in Sauternes:
The 2019 vintage for Sauternes was characterized by ideal conditions for the development of botrytis, leading to richly concentrated sugar levels in the grapes. This resulted in naturally sweet wines with complex flavors.
The vinification process involved multiple picking passes, with the first starting in early October, allowing for the selection of grapes with high potential alcohol content.

Chateau Croix du Trale, Haut-Medoc 2020
From the heart of the Haut-Médoc, Château Croix du Trale 2020 is a classic blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot, aged for 12 months in French oak. It’s medium-bodied, with ripe red and... black fruits, a touch of spice, and well-judged oak. There’s a bit of chocolate and smoke too, and a nice freshness to keep it all in balance. This is drinking well already and will hold nicely to 2033.
The estate is a proper family affair, run by Stéphane and Sandra, along with their daughters Laurie and Chloé. They've been building the domaine together over the years and are part of the Cru Bourgeois group of independent growers in Bordeaux.

Owned by the Bich family (of Bic pens fame) since 1978, however it is only relatively recently that the estate began to ramp things up. Since 2010 Pauline Bich Chandon-Moët and her husband Philippe have invested substantially to bring Château de Ferrand firmly into the 21st century, with important and design-led technical changes in the winery, environmental changes with organic practices being implemented in the vineyard (and also many architectural and artistic renovations). The 2022 vintage is the estate's second vintage in its three-year conversion to organic certification; they hope to be fully certified by 2024.
In 2019 new cellars were opened along with renowned consultant Axel Marchal coming on board and following a study of the soils and subsoils, the entire vineyard has been restructured through a rigorous selection of grape varieties according to their ability to adapt to the terroir of each plot and this meticulous attention to detail shows!

The estate is located in the village of Plassac on south facing slopes overlooking the Gironde estuary, just across the river from Saint Julien, where similar soils can be found at a far higher price level.
The vineyards are planted on a mix of clay and limestone, with the influence of the estuary helping to maintain balance and freshness in the fruit. Château Maine Gazin 2023 is made from a blend that includes Cabernet Franc alongside Merlot, giving the wine both ripe fruit and a touch of structure.

Chateau Senejac, Haut-Medoc 2023 12x75cl
Château Sénéjac always punches above its weight as it does this year with a price of just £11.50 per bottle in bond. It has consistently been one of our top selling drinking wines from Bordeaux... and having tasted it Bordeaux 10 days ago it will be again this year – it was superb. A top Cru Bourgeoise owned by the Cordier family (Château Talbot,) the estate is overseen by Alfred Tesseron and the team from Pontet-Canet ( a 100 point wine this year).
Soft but plentiful tannins from the first moment, this is lovely, with a real sense of grip and life, rises gently through the palate, touches of tomato leaf and liqourice root coupled with ruby brambled fruit and an overall sense of balance and cheer, Haut Medoc typicity, austere tannins on the finish, but in a way that suggests ability to age, and an ability to bring you out of the glass and into the place and the terroir. "The 2023 Sénéjac has a somehow 'distant' bouquet that requires aeration to open up, with graphite/pencil shavings littered over the light black fruit. Clos de Nouys is the essence of dry Vouvray and this 25 acre estate is found just outside the eponymous sleepy village, where they are the masters of Chenin Blanc. This is as good and affordable as... Chenin Blanc gets. CVNE Contino Reserva Rioja 2020
The Contino Reserva 2020 from CVNE is a proper Rioja — full of character, beautifully made, and seriously good value for money.
Made from 85% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano, and the rest a mix of... Garnacha and Mazuelo, it’s aged for two years in oak barrels (20% American, 80% French) and then further in bottle before release. The oak adds warmth and spice, but it’s all really well balanced.
It opens with bright red fruit – strawberry, raspberry, a touch of blueberry – with hints of vanilla, liquorice, and a subtle balsamic edge. On the palate it’s fresh, smooth, and elegant, with enough grip to stand up to food but soft enough to enjoy on its own. The finish is long and refined.
It’s incredibly versatile with food – great with roast lamb or grilled meats, rich pasta or pizza dishes, casseroles, stews, and mature cheeses.
We’ve had to edge the price up slightly to £21.75, but for a Reserva of this quality, it still punches well above its weight. It’s a wine I’ll be making room for in the cellar.

Dernauer Pfarrwingert Pinot Noir “Symphonie” Trocken 2021
The Symphonie is Oliver’s flagship Pinot Noir, produced only in exceptional vintages and from one of the finest sites in the Ahr. The Dernauer Pfarrwingert vineyard sits high above the valley, a... position that proved crucial in 2021. Despite the devastating floods that affected much of the region, the elevation of this site allowed the fruit to ripen fully, producing a wine of remarkable concentration and balance.
Made with the intention of ageing, Symphonie is matured for 18 months in 100% new oak. The result is a Pinot Noir of depth and structure, showing an intense palate of red and black fruit layered with herbal notes and complex spice. Powerful yet refined, it is a wine built to develop slowly in bottle.
The 2021 vintage stands as a remarkable achievement for the Ahr. In challenging conditions, careful vineyard work and selective harvesting produced wines of precision and freshness. From the Pfarrwingert vineyard, the result is a Pinot Noir with both structure and longevity.
Already highly awarded, the wine has received strong international recognition.

Domaine de la Pirolette, Saint-Amour 2023
Domaine de la Pirolette is one of the benchmark estates of Saint Amour, the smallest and most northerly cru of Beaujolais. Run by Grégory and Virginie Barbet, the domaine sits on a hillside opposite... the village church, with south facing vineyards that produce wines of both ripeness and aromatic lift.
The 2023 vintage shows a generous and expressive style, combining ripe fruit with freshness and balance, typical of well handled Beaujolais from this cru.
Tasting notes
Domaine de la Pirolette Saint Amour 2023 shows aromas of wild strawberry, cherry and blueberry, layered with notes of violet, liquorice and a touch of white pepper.
On the palate the wine is juicy and well structured, with ripe red fruit supported by soft tannins and a fresh, lifted finish. The balance between fruit and freshness gives the wine both immediate appeal and enough structure to develop over the short term.
A beautifully made cru Beaujolais that combines charm and complexity, offering excellent value and a clear expression of Saint Amour.
