Chateau Berliquet Grand Cru Classe, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2023 12x75cl

Chateau Berliquet 2003 has just been released to considerable and growing critical acclaim, Purchased by Chanel in 2017 it is part of their now legendary triumvirate along with Chateau Canon &... Rauzan Segla all under superstar winemaker and manager Nicholas Audebert. On the plateau of St Emilion with a blend of 59% Merlot and 41% Cabernet Franc, the wine has fragrant flavours of wild blueberries, plum preserves, and kirsch, followed by a hint of lilac – it is bright and energetic, with intense red and black berry layers and super-silky tannins, finishing with wonderful length and tension in a word delicious. It will age well and is a shrewd investment grade wine (with a release price 21% down on last year) that is sure to follow the upward trajectory of Canon & Ruzan Segla. "A blend of 59% Merlot and 41% Cabernet Franc, the 2023 Berliquet has a pH of 3.53 and it is ageing in 10% amphorae and 90% oak barriques, of which 34% are new. It has a deep garnet-purple color and it hops from the glass with fragrant notes of wild blueberries, plum preserves, and kirsch, followed by hints of lilacs, fragrant soil, and cardamom. The medium-bodied palate is bright and energetic, with intense red and black berry layers and super-silky tannins, finishing with wonderful length and tension." 94-96 points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW "A plump and juicy wine with redcurrants and plums, as well as orange peel. Full and layered with round, juicy tannins and a flavorful finish. Generous fruit in this vintage." 94-95 points, James Suckling "The 2023 Berliquet is the first vintage produced in the estate's new winery, equipped with double the number of vats, permitting proper separation of blocks. That's especially important, as Berliquet is a more diverse terroir than Canon, and it can now be interpreted with much more precision. Offering up aromas of cherries, black raspberries, licorice and violets, it's medium to full-bodied, pillowy and layered, with a fleshy core of concentrated fruit, refined, chalky tannins and lively acids." 93-95 points, William Kelley "The 2023 Berliquet was picked 23 September to October 5 at 45hL/ha, matured in 34% new oak plus 10 amphorae. Initially, the nose is quite backward and doesn't want to play. Give it a few swirls and it opens to reveal black cherries, blackcurrant and a distant tang of oyster shell emanating from limestone soils. The palate is medium-bodied with a very harmonious entry. Finely weighted, tensile and slightly savory in style, this is very elegant, finishing with citrus-like freshness. Berliquet has definitely been in the ascendant in recent vintages, and this is another to add." 93-95 points, Neal Martin

Chateau Berliquet Grand Cru Classe, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2020 12x75cl

Château Berliquet 2020 is a standout Saint Émilion Grand Cru Classé and very much benefiting from the ownership and investment of Chanel, who also oversee Canon and Rauzan Ségla. The quality has... risen sharply in recent years and the 2020 reflects that. It has received strong press, with 94 points from both The Wine Advocate and James Suckling, and similar praise from other major critics. The wine shows generous dark berry fruit with a touch of violet and gentle spice. There is real finesse to the tannins, good freshness and a long, composed finish. Chateau Coutet Premier Cru Classe, Barsac 2023 3x75cl

Chateau Coutet 2023. 1er Grand Cru Barsac comes from one of the finest Estates in Barsac/Sauternes and besides being modestly priced and delicious it also performs well as an investment grade wine... (see below) We tasted the 2023 at Mouton Rothschild last month – it was gorgeous with wonderful aromatics of summer fruits and a tough of spice. We all agreed that this will probably be the only Sauternes we will be offering – it was that good! "Beautiful aromatics, fresh acidity that picks things up from the first moment, crisp citrus, mango, pineapple, grated ginger, and a twist of bitter aniseed on the finish. Richly concentrated, reflecting small yields, but once again a wine that shows the huge potential of this style in the 2023 vintage. Harvest between September 20 and October 11." 96 points, Jane Anson "A Barsac with dried-apple, apricot and spice character. The botrytis comes through with a healthy and clean nature to it. Medium-bodied and medium-sweet with a spicy finish." 94-95 points, James Suckling "The 2023 Coutet is stellar. Soaring aromatics and bright acids drive through a core of lemon confit, apricot, mint, spice, passion fruit and pineapple. The interplay of deep, layered flavors and energy is so compelling. 2028-2048" 93-95 points, Antonio Galloni

Chateau Coutet Premier Cru Classe, Barsac 2020

Château Coutet Premier Cru Classé, Barsac 2020 is one of the benchmark sweet wines of Bordeaux and a leading name within the appellation. As a Premier Cru Classé, Coutet is widely regarded as... being in the very top tier of Bordeaux sweet wines, standing comfortably alongside estates such as Château Rieussec in terms of quality, consistency and ageing potential. The 2020 vintage captures the estate at a particularly high level. The wine offers depth and concentration without heaviness, combining ripe botrytised fruit with the natural freshness that defines great Barsac. Aromas of honeyed apricot, quince and citrus peel lead into a layered palate of candied orange, stone fruit and subtle spice, all lifted by vibrant acidity. This balance between richness and precision is the hallmark of Château Coutet. In 75cl format, this is the classic expression of the wine and the ideal choice for cellaring. The structure and concentration of the 2020 suggest a long and graceful evolution ahead, with the wine set to gain complexity and nuance over many decades in bottle. Wonderful now though and can be kept in the fridge for a week after opening. An outstanding partner to foie gras, blue cheeses or refined desserts, but equally compelling enjoyed on its own. This is a serious, age worthy Barsac and a clear illustration of why Château Coutet remains one of the finest sweet wine producers in Bordeaux.

Château d’Armailhac is not to be missed, everyone should add it to their holdings of fine wines. “There’s a powdery and open texture to this red. Full-bodied and layered with a pretty and weightless texture. Blackcurrants and blueberries and an orange-peel undertone. Velvety texture at the end. 70% cabernet sauvignon, 15% merlot, 13% cabernet franc and 2% petit verdot.” 96-97 points, James Suckling “Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2023 d'Armailhac sings of black raspberries, wild strawberries, and tilled soil with hints of dried herbs and wet slate. The medium-bodied palate is lively and elegantly styled, with plush tannins supporting delicate red and black fruit layers, culminating in a well-sustained finish. Very impressive! The blend is 70% Cabernet Sauvignon (the highest ever percentage for d'Armailhac), 15% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot, with pH 3.75. Chateau Langoa Barton 3eme Cru Classe, Saint-Julien 2022 6x75cl

Langoa Barton has made an exceptional 2022 with scores from the critics as high as 96-97. We were all captivated by it when we tasted it in Bordeaux at the end of March; it is a brilliant Langoa... Barton. “the brilliant 2022 Langoa Barton... it should match or even surpass the 2019 and 2016 vintages, and it is sure to be one of the more intelligent purchases of the en primeur campaign.” William Kelley Wine Advocate Château Langoa-Barton, (like its sister estate, Léoville Barton) is one of the few chateaux, out of all the 1855 Classified Growths, that is still in the hands of the same family that was the owner at the time of the 1855 classification. The estate today is run by Lillian Barton after her father, Anthony Barton, one of the Bordeaux legends sadly passed away last year. The style of Château Langoa Barton is quite different than that of Château Léoville Barton. Though both are vinified and matured in exactly the same way, a large part of that of course has to do with their vineyards and their location - the vines for Langoa Barton are due south of Leoville Barton and face the River Gironde, with north by north-west exposure. The Château Langoa-Barton blend is dominated by hand-harvested Cabernet Sauvignon, but it sees a higher proportion of Merlot than Léoville-Barton and a touch of Cabernet Franc. The gravel-rich soils and cooling waters of the Gironde contribute to its silky, elegant appeal and ability to age gracefully. A fantastic wine from an excellent vintage - a beautifully balanced classic claret displaying typical St Julien restraint and elegance and in our opinion, one of the best value Cru Classé estates... "The 2022 Langoa Barton is vibrant and focused, as the best wines are in this vintage...There's a purity to the 2022 that is impossible to miss." “Langoa could turn out to be one of the Sleepers of 2022” Antonio Galloni

Chateau Meyney, Saint-Estephe 2022 6x150cl

JA95
Château Meyney 2022 (organic) is “the insider’s St Estephe” says Jane Anson, who scored it an incredible 95 points, saying "it’s definitely one to look out for... a great example of... Meyney... A buy”. “Pure and taut, it is a strong effort ...” William Kelley. “Impressive concentration” James Suckling Meyney is ideally positioned next door to Montrose (which it is often mistaken for in blind tastings). Blessed with a wonderful terroir in close proximity to the Gironde River and its cooling influence, which was undoubtedly one of the keys to the estate’s success in this warm, dry vintage. In recent vintages, under the direction of Anne Le Naour and with Hubert de Boüard as consultant, the estate has been on a steep upward trajectory. Famed for the high proportion and quality of its Petit Verdot in the blend, which adds a wonderfully lively top note of violets in 2022. We were all impressed by the beautifully ripe core of dark fruit and the ripeness of the tannins that reveal the sweetness and finesse of a fine vintage. Unashamedly Saint-Estèphe with that slight savoury, iodine/mussel shell touch, delicious and a bargain. Truly an estate that is punching well above its price point! Château Meyney 2022, despite its modest price possesses the structure for relatively long-term cellaring. This is a must-buy!

Chateau Talbot 4eme Cru Classe, Saint-Julien 2023 12x75cl

One of our most popular releases annually and a firm UK favourite from Saint-Julien, Château Talbot is in our opinion one of the best value left bank clarets. This 2023 has surpassed all... expectations and is offered on the UK market this morning 20.1% down on last year’s 2022. This is a classical style Claret which is absolutely gorgeous, it will last for many years to come and as Neal Martin says, may even be better than the 2022, we concur after tasting in Bordeaux. “A medium- to full-bodied red with very fine tannins. It’s firm and structured, showing a bright, dark-fruited character. Focused, with a good center-palate and a lingering finish. Really polished." 94-95 points, James Suckling "More proof that Talbot is on a roll, revved up and ready to take off. This is a brilliantly juicy but understated Talbot, lovely quality, classically-minded with cassis, blueberry, mint leaf, cocoa bean, espresso and powerful grilled fennel. Great stuff. 60% new oak for ageing, and a generous 54hl/ha yield." 94 points, Jane Anson "The 2023 Talbot is another strong wine for this re-emerging estate. Powerful, deep and impressively resonant, the 2023 is striking. Dark-toned fruit, new leather, lavender and dried herbs build over time. There's terrific depth and intensity here, with fine balance to match. This is a superb showing from Talbot and the team led by Estate Director Jean-Michel Laporte. Drink 2030-2053." 93-95 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous "Offering up aromas of dark berries, baking chocolate, plums, espresso roast and crushed mint, the 2023 Talbot is medium to full-bodied, deep and fleshy, with a rich but lively core of fruit, powdery tannins and a long, penetrating finish. Harvested over the course of fully four weeks, it's a blend of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot that attained 13% alcohol." 92-94 points, William Kelley, Wine Advocate "The 2023 Talbot contains the highest proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon to date, at 77%. It was picked from September 13 to October 6 at 54hL/ha according to winemaker Jean-Michel Laporte. Matured in 60% new oak, this has a fragrant bouquet that, like one or two fellow Saint-Julien wines, discretely unfolds in the glass. Quite precise with blackberry, cedar and light pencil box scents, there is a Pauillac-like tincture here. The palate is medium-bodied with finely chiseled, grainy tannins. It’s overtly classic in style, albeit with more mid-weight depth compared to some vintages of Talbot. Displaying fine cohesion and sapidity, this fans out on the finish, with a deft touch of white pepper livening things up. This is a very promising Talbot, and I may actually prefer it to the previous vintage." 91-93 points, Neal Martin, Vinous

Chateau Talbot 4eme Cru Classe, Saint-Julien 2023 6x75cl

Dernauer Pfarrwingert Pinot Noir “Symphonie” Trocken 2021

The Symphonie is Oliver’s flagship Pinot Noir, produced only in exceptional vintages and from one of the finest sites in the Ahr. The Dernauer Pfarrwingert vineyard sits high above the valley, a... position that proved crucial in 2021. Despite the devastating floods that affected much of the region, the elevation of this site allowed the fruit to ripen fully, producing a wine of remarkable concentration and balance. Made with the intention of ageing, Symphonie is matured for 18 months in 100% new oak. The result is a Pinot Noir of depth and structure, showing an intense palate of red and black fruit layered with herbal notes and complex spice. Powerful yet refined, it is a wine built to develop slowly in bottle. The 2021 vintage stands as a remarkable achievement for the Ahr. In challenging conditions, careful vineyard work and selective harvesting produced wines of precision and freshness. From the Pfarrwingert vineyard, the result is a Pinot Noir with both structure and longevity. Already highly awarded, the wine has received strong international recognition. Errazuriz, Las Pizarras Chardonnay, Aconcagua 2021 6x75cl

Las Pizarras 2021: “The 2021 Las Pizarras Chardonnay is stunning... an austere profile, elegant, vibrant, mineral and pure, extremely clean, chiseled and symmetric, with an effervescent palate and... the intensely mineral and salty character that defines the best vintage of this wine... This is a wine with full development of aromas and flavors, subtly nuanced (marzipan, pear, white flowers) with very integrated oak and stunning precision, finishing very dry. Delicate and elegant. It's among the finest vintages, with less power than 2015, vertical and with good structure, more Chablis than Meursault. Superb! 8,900 bottles were filled in June 2022.” 97+ Points, Luis Gutierrez, Wine Advocate

La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion, Pessac-Leognan 2023 6x75cl

The solid center-palate and sure nature says La Mission, as it should, being the second wine of the estate. Medium body with a creamy and refined tannin structure that is long and true. Oyster-shell... and blackcurrant character, as well as crushed stones. Direct. 48.3% merlot, 39.4% cabernet sauvignon and 12.3% cabernet franc. 95-96 James Suckling The 2023 La Chapelle De La Mission Haut-Brion showed beautifully, with a ripe, round, supple, sexy style. Black raspberries, liquid violets, spicy wood, and tobacco are just some of the nuances in this beauty, and it has a classic La Mission supple, round, opulent style that has so much to love. 91-94 Jeb Dunnuck Deep ruby colour, makes an immediate impression with its elegant, uplifted tannic grip delivering careful construction of red roses, blueberry and black cherry fruit, grilled spices and understated energy. Will need a good few years in bottle before fully softening, but full of joy. 93 Points Jane Anson

Le Marquis de Calon Segur, Saint-Estephe 2021 150cl

Le Marquis de Calon Ségur 2021 is the second wine of Château Calon Ségur, one of the most historic estates in Saint Estèphe. Produced from younger vines and selected parcels within the estate, it... offers a more approachable expression of this renowned terroir while retaining the character and structure of the grand vin. The vineyards are planted on gravel and clay soils typical of Saint Estèphe, well suited to Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. These soils contribute to the wine’s depth and structure, while the proximity to the Gironde estuary helps to moderate temperatures and support even ripening. The 2021 vintage is a more classical Bordeaux year, favouring balance, freshness and precision over concentration. Le Marquis de Calon Ségur 2021 reflects this style, offering a refined and well balanced claret that is accessible earlier than the grand vin while still showing clear Saint Estèphe character. Tasting notes Le Marquis de Calon Ségur 2021 shows aromas of red and dark berry fruit, with notes of cassis, plum and a touch of spice. On the palate the wine is medium bodied and structured, with fresh fruit supported by fine tannins and lively acidity. The finish is balanced and precise, with subtle hints of cedar and graphite. Drinking window 2026 to 2036 A classic Saint Estèphe second wine that combines approachability with structure, offering a reliable introduction to the style of Château Calon Ségur and the character of the 2021 vintage.
