Carruades de Lafite, Pauillac 2023 3x75cl
Carruades , one of the most sought-after wines every year has just been released. It is the second wine of Ch Lafite Rothschild, and has been released at £930.00 per 6x75cl, a price reduction of... 19% on the 2022 vintage. It is one of the best recent vintages of Carruades and at this price it will be one of the top performers among the 2023’s you buy. Simply put -it is investment Gold Dust, largely due to its particularly strong following in the Asian market.
Carruades is in reality much more than you could ask of a second wine, with its own personality, yet made providing a glimpse of what makes Lafite the global success which it is. 2023 sees the inclusion of grapes from the ‘Caudeyrac’ plot, a prominent portion of the Lafite plateau, which has given Carruades a more Pauillac personality than ever before this year.
"A savory and juicy Carruades with softness and notes of ripe berry, cedar and dried tobacco. Like Lafite from the 1980s but more precise. Round and pretty. It really grows on the finish with such sweetness of fruit and length. Pointed, fine tannins at the end. Very long. A blend of 60% cabernet sauvignon and 40% merlot." 95-96 points, James Suckling
"Medium intensity ruby, fairly austere right now, structured, with the same mint leaf and ink quality as Lafite. The sweet brambled black fruits only come in through the mid palate, this is well paced, unrolls slowly, a serious and concentrated Carruades that has its eye on the future. 12% pres wine, harvest September 7 to 29, unusually only using Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend." 94 points, Jane Anson
"The 2023 Carruades de Lafite is a very pretty, sensual wine that very much captures the personality of the Grand Vin, naturally in a more approachable style. The blend is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot, with no Franc or Petit Verdot. I have to say, there is something very direct about the 2023—something frank that is really evident. I admire its purity. Succulent red plum, spice, cedar, tobacco and a lifting touch of white pepper open first, while beautifully persistent saline undertones extend the finish." 92-94 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous
"The 2023 Carruades de Lafite is deep garnet-purple in color. After a swirl or two, a beautiful perfume of rose oil and lavender is released, opening out to a classic core of cassis, fresh plums, and pencil lead with a touch of red, iron-rich soil. The light to medium-bodied palate is delicately styled, with compelling vibrancy and nice, ripe, fine-grained tannins supporting the black fruits, finishing long and fragrant. This is very pretty! The blend is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot, with pH 3.70. The alcohol is 13.2%." 92-94 points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW
"The 2023 Carruades de Lafite is notable for some of the Cabernet being picked prior to the Merlot, between September 7 and 29. This year, there is no Cabernet Franc or Petit Verdot in the blend. It has a far superior bouquet to some of the vintages I was tasting a decade or so ago—much more purity and precision, with notes of black plum, wild strawberry and a touch of cassis. The palate is medium-bodied with a silky texture and a crisp line of acidity. It’s fresh, precise and saline, with a long tail on the finish. This is surely one of the best Carruades I have tasted at this stage." 91-93 points, Neal Martin, Vinous

Chateau Lafite Rothschild Premier Cru Classe, Pauillac 2000 150cl
Château Lafite Rothschild 2000 has immense power and longevity, with some critics putting the end of its window in the late 2070's. It is very rare in magnum format and ages beautifully.
"The nose... is fresh, bright, and dense. With aromas of violets, minerals, spices, cool stones, mint, dark fruits, and plum skins, this is beautiful… This is a wine for the next generation… truly a wine that makes you contemplate life. This is not about power, there is really nothing like it… Do not even think about touching this for another ten years".

Chateau Lafite Rothschild Premier Cru Classe, Pauillac 2005 6x75cl
Small special parcel of the excellent 2005 vintage by the Chateau where it has been aging gently in their cellars for the last 18+ years and will be in perfect condition with new labels and wooden... cases. This adds considerable value to the wine as it also guarantees its provenance.
2005 was one of the great vintages in Bordeaux and especially at Chateau Lafite where it was lauded by the critics with exceptional scores.
‘Absolutely marvellous wine…truly glorious’ – 19.5/20 Jancis Robinson
‘The palate has such freshness and density, with perfectly polished tannins. Slightly leathery, like a wonderful Hermes bag’ - 100 points James Suckling.
“An incredible nose, so subtle with red fruits, mint, minerals, and all sorts of flowers give way to Cohiba cigar tobacco. The palate has such freshness and density, with perfectly polished tannins. Slightly leathery, like a wonderful Hermes bag” 100 points. James Suckling
For the third year in a row, Bordeaux experienced drought. In other words, not a drop of rain from May to October. As always, however, our good vines, faithful and strong, adapted and overcame these difficult moments. The summer temperatures remained reasonable, and ripening was slow, calm and very complete. The grapes remained small and concentrated. Small quantities, high degrees, a perfect state of health. The most demanding of winegrowers was content. A famously perfect year throughout the growing season. This was the star of the tasting for pure, inherent quality - a truly glorious wine that will presumably continue to impress those lucky enough to taste it for many decades to come. Very dark, shaded crimson. The most gorgeous panoply of aromas on the nose - not yet knit but just starting to integrate. Exceptionally promising. Absolutely marvellous wine that was extremely difficult to spit. Fresh but ripe with great life and energy. The density of fruit covered the considerable charge of tannin. Such verve! So healthy. Some pure stoniness on the mid palate. 19.5/20 Jancis Robinson
“Waves of saffron, truffle, black tea and earth set the pace for a remarkably balanced and aromatically-complex wine. This is still a baby at 17 years old, but has reached the level of Lafite character when all is elegance and finesse - the perfect example of how in Bordeaux they don't need excess to deliver something extraordinary. As things relax, you get a luscious, more concentrated core of cassis and bilberry fruit, with cedar, charcoal, violet, raspberry leaf and slate. Fine tannins hold it all in place, you could give this a long carafe to drink now, but the real magic needs another decade or so. Charles Chevallier technical director, and this was the last year with Emile Peynaud as consultant, before Jacques Boissenot took over in 2006. A pair of scales was chosen to decorate the bottle neck to reflect the balance of the vintage”. 98 points Jane Anson -

Chateau Lynch Bages 5eme Cru Classe, Pauillac 2021 3x300cl
Château Lynch-Bages is one of the most recognised estates of Pauillac and has been owned by the Cazes family since the 1930s. The vineyard is planted predominantly with Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Careful vineyard management and precise winemaking have helped establish Lynch Bages as one of the most consistent producers in the Médoc.
The 2021 vintage in Bordeaux required careful work in the vineyard and a measured approach in the cellar. At Lynch Bages the result is a wine that reflects the strengths of the estate, showing purity of fruit, balance and classic Pauillac character.

Chateau Margaux Premier Cru Classe, Margaux 1990 150cl
Margaux 1990 speaks for itself. Extremely rare in magnum format with three 100 point reviews from very well respected critics.
“It offers an extraordinary aromatic display of spring flowers,... camphor, sweet red and black fruits, a hint of liquorice…Round and generous … fresh with laser-like precision, this stunning wine is just beginning to reach its plateau of full maturity, where it should remain for another three decades. A sensational effort, it is one of the legendary wines made at Chateau Margaux”.

Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, June 2009
“The 1990 Château Margaux is really beginning to hit its stride at age 31, … Full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, it's seamless and complete, … This is an especially dramatic, fleshy rendition of Margaux, yet it remains impeccably balanced and has decades of longevity ahead of it”.

William Kelley, Wine Advocate, February 2022
The 1990 Chateau Margaux has turned into a sensational wine that eclipses both the 1988 and 1989...and then some… it is the kind of nose in which you just immerse yourself… The palate is soft and sensual with incredible depth… I feel that this 1990 Château Margaux is at its peak ... Magnificent”.

Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 2eme Cru Classe, Pauillac 2023 12x75cl
Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 2023 is ‘outstanding’ and has been released 36% less than last year - the lowest price of the last 5 vintages. It is one of the Pauillac’s most... celebrated Châteaux whose vineyards adjoin those of Château Latour with the same exceptional terroir. This is one of the wines of the vintage with very high scores from the critics.
A compelling buy and a blue-chip investment grade wine. Our allocation is tiny so please let us know as soon as you can.
"Wow. This is really excellent, with superb finesse and focus. It has tight density that is almost diamond-like in its brilliance. Medium to full body, with a quality of tannin that is incredibly seamless. Like silk in texture. A top Pichon Lalande. From organic and biodynamically grown grapes. 80% cabernet sauvignon, 17% merlot and 3% cabernet franc. May be better than 2022." 98-99 points, James Suckling
"The 2023 Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is a brilliant wine that will be worth a special effort to track down. Unwinding in the glass with aromas of wild berries and cassis mingled with licorice, lilac, iris root, violet, burning embers and pencil shavings, it's medium to full-bodied, seamless and complete, with a deep, layered core of cool fruit that largely conceals it's ultra-refined structuring tannins. At a very measured 13% alcohol and 3.67 pH, it unites all Pichon Comtesse's sensuality with unimpeachable Pauillac classicism. The 2023 is a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc." 97-99 points, William Kelley
"The 2023 Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande was picked from September 6 until 29, with some rain on September 20 in the middle of Cabernet picking. But, Nicolas Glumineau remarked that the vineyard/fruit was in good condition; one day of rain did not affect the quality. The 2023 has a quintessential Comtesse bouquet, displaying pure and expressive black fruit laced with violet and graphite, delivered with impressive delineation. The palate is very refined on the entry. This is armed with beguiling symmetry—poised yet intense on the finish. It doesn’t exert huge grip because it knows it doesn't need to, and it fans out gloriously. Outstanding." 96-98 points, Neal Martin
"Intense and luxurious, with wonderful balance and grip, has the old school feel of a powerful, structured but effortlessly drinkable Pauillac with the precison and sculpted fruit quality of recent vintages at this exceptional estate. A gorgeous mix of cassis, cocoa bean, espresso, squid ink, graphite, pencil lead and gunsmoke. A wine you will want to drink and share, and one that is fully at the top of the vintage. 14.7% press wine, 60% new oak, final year of conversion to organics. Nicolas Glumineau director. Tasted twice." 98 points, Jane Anson
"The 2023 Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande marries elegance, power and sophistication. Soft, ripe tannins wrap around a core of inky dark fruit, licorice, spice, pencil shavings, lavender and menthol. Bright acids pull it all together on the finish. In 2023, Pichon Comtesse blends Merlot picked early for freshness and Cabernets picked later for tannin ripeness and flavor complexity. Readers will have to be patient, but the 2023 holds considerable promise for those who can wait. This is another stellar effort from the team led by General Manager Nicolas Glumineau. Tasted three times." 95-98 points, Antonio Galloni
“Cuban cigars, cocoa, espresso, currants, blackberries, flowers, truffles, and smoke. On the palate, the wine is as complex as the nose. This gem is silky, sensuous, polished, fresh, and alive. The cherries, and currants, are pure. There is depth and sweetness. The wine is medium-bodied, but not light. According to the chateau, the 2023 represents their version of Back to the Future. I see their point. The wine will age effortlessly for decades, yet it is going to be fabulous to drink, even in its youth. The wine blends 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, and 3% Cabernet Franc. 13% ABV, 3.67 pH. The harvest took place September 6 - September 27. Yields were 30 hectoliters per hectare. Only 50% of the harvest goes into the Grand Vin. Drink from 2029-2065.” 96-98 points, Jeff Leve Wine Cellar Insider

Dom Perignon, P3 1990
Dom Pérignon P3 1990
When the ‘P’ in P3 stands for Plénitude, translating to ‘completeness’ or ‘abundance’, you can assume Dom Pérignon has left nothing on the table when creating its... ultimate expression. The 1990 has spent a minimum of 25 years ageing on its lees and was not released until 2019. With fewer than 20 P3 vintages ever created, and only in years when the Cellar Master believes the wine is capable of reaching this level of evolution, Dom Pérignon P3 1990 is an exceptionally rare Champagne.
The 1990 vintage is particularly special, coming from one of Champagne's great years and now offering an extraordinary combination of maturity, concentration and freshness. Expect layers of ripe yellow fruit, dried white flowers, honeycomb and brioche, with extended lees ageing bringing incredible texture, depth and complexity. This is Champagne at its most profound: powerful without being heavy, complex without losing precision, and with a finish that seems to go on indefinitely.
James Suckling awarded the standard Dom Pérignon 1990 99 points, so you might say the 100-point scale isn't even enough to do Dom Pérignon P3 1990 justice. For collectors, this is a rare opportunity to experience Dom Pérignon at the very furthest point of its evolution - a truly transcendent Champagne and the pinnacle of the house's craftsmanship.

Domaine William Fevre, Chablis Grand Cru, Les Clos 2022 6x75cl
“… rich, big-bodied and tautly muscular flavors …all wrapped in a wonderfully persistent, very dry, balanced and stony finale. This is also extremely impressive and equally built to repay extended cellaring.93-95 points 'Don't miss!' Burghound Aug 2023

Errazuriz, Vinedo Chadwick, Maipo Valley 2021 3x75cl
Viñedo Chadwick 2021 is one of the leading Cabernet Sauvignon wines of Chile and a benchmark expression of the Maipo Valley. Produced by Viñedo Chadwick, the wine comes from a small vineyard... planted on the former polo field of the Chadwick family in Puente Alto, at the foothills of the Andes.
The estate was developed by Eduardo Chadwick of Viña Errázuriz, with the ambition of producing a world class Cabernet Sauvignon that could stand alongside the great wines of Bordeaux and California. The project gained international recognition following the Berlin Tasting in 2004, where Viñedo Chadwick ranked ahead of several First Growth Bordeaux in a blind tasting judged by European critics.
The vineyard lies in the Alto Maipo, an area widely regarded as the finest source of Cabernet Sauvignon in Chile. Gravel soils, warm days and cool Andean nights allow the grapes to ripen slowly while retaining freshness and structure.
Viñedo Chadwick 2021 wine details
The 2021 vintage in Maipo Valley produced wines of excellent balance and purity. Viñedo Chadwick 2021 is made entirely from Cabernet Sauvignon, with small amounts of Petit Verdot often included depending on the vintage.
The wine shows remarkable precision and depth, reflecting both the pedigree of the site and the careful vineyard management that defines the estate.
Viñedo Chadwick 2021 tasting notes
Viñedo Chadwick 2021 opens with intense aromas of blackcurrant, cassis and dark cherry, layered with notes of graphite, cedar and subtle spice.
On the palate the wine is concentrated yet elegant, with finely structured tannins and vibrant acidity that give the wine energy and length. The finish is long and refined, suggesting excellent ageing potential.

Le Clarence de Haut-Brion, Pessac-Leognan 2023 6x75cl
Le Clarence de Haut Brion is Château Haut-Brion's second wine which is nothing short of exceptional every year, but this year in particular, we were all deeply impressed by the quality of the 2023... when we tasted the wines of the Haut Brion stable at La Mission in April. This is a baby Haut Brion, and a wonderful version of the heralded Grand Vin which will be approachable earlier than Haut-Brion herself. Le Clarence represents brilliant value for money. Please also see performance below of the similarly scored 2015 vintage. Very highly recommended.
“Intensity and focus to this, with length and raciness for the second wine of Haut-Brion, showing polish and a refined texture. It’s medium-bodied with ultra-fine tannins and an exquisite finish. Caressing. 55.5% merlot, 40.9% cabernet sauvignon and 3.6% cabernet franc." 95-96 points, James Suckling
"More intense and deeply coloured than the Chapelle, this is inky, cassis, spiced bilberry, with a slow build tannnic architecture, and the most gorgeous slate scrape. Exceptional vintage of this wine, one to savour." 94 points, Jane Anson
"The 2023 Le Clarence de Haut-Brion is well-defined on the nose with blackberry, cedar and a subtle mint aroma, showing a little more fruit concentration than the La Chapelle. The palate is medium-bodied with a gentle grip on the entry and fine backbone. It’s a little granular in texture, sorbet-fresh and pliant, with redcurrant and cranberry fruit. This is very enticing, even at this early stage." 90-92 points, Neal Martin

Le Dome, Saint-Emilion 2020
A true cult wine of Saint-Émilion, Le Dôme 2020 is the flagship of Jonathan Maltus’s portfolio, showcasing the purity and power of Cabernet Franc at its finest. Produced in tiny quantities from a... single vineyard on the slopes of the plateau, it captures both elegance and intensity in equal measure.
"This iconic wine comes from a single vineyard on the slopes of the Saint-Emilion plateau. Mainly Cabernet Franc, the wine is beautifully perfumed with structure and tannins in harmony alongside black fruits. Still young, the wine is sure to age. Drink from 2026." 98 Points Wine Enthusiast
"The 2020 Le Dome is a blend of 80% Cabernet Franc and 20% Merlot with an alcohol of 13.9% and a pH of 3.69. The Merlot was harvested on September 29th, with the Cabernet Franc on October 8th and 9th. It is being aged in 80% new French oak barrels. Deep garnet-purple in color, it comes storming out of the glass with thunderous scents of stewed plums, blueberry preserves and chocolate-covered cherries, followed by impactful, fragrant notions of rose oil, ground cloves, eucalyptus and pencil shavings. The palate is jaw-droppingly elegant, considering the power of the nose, featuring elegantly crafted black and red fruit layers with very ripe, finely grained tannins and tons of freshness, finishing long and perfumed. Le Dome is from the JCP Maltus portfolio of skillfully crafted Saint-Émilion wines. Neil White is the head winemaker and Thomas Duclos is a consultant here." 97-99 Points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, The Wine Advocate

Le Petit Mouton de Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac 2023 6x75cl
Le Petit Mouton de Mouton Rothschild, the second wine Château Mouton Rothschild has been released 23% down on last year. As with the Grand Vin, there is a miniscule amount to go around and... allocations are like gold dust, please as always let us know ASAP. It is a consistent blue chip investment grade wine.
Made from a selection of the youngest vines of the illustrious estate and with the same meticulous care taken in all aspects as with its bigger sibling, even down to the label chosen by Baroness Philippine de Rothschild which was inspired by a drawing of the famous painter-posterist Jean Carlu. I hesitate to refer to it as a second wine as it has a world renowned reputation within its own right, Neal Martin said of the 2022 “it's quite difficult to recognize this as a mere Deuxieme Vin” Neal Martin.
"This is a tighter and more compact Petit Mouton with a full-bodied, compact palate that is framed nicely by the tannins. Savory and juicy. Structured. Contained. 79% cabernet sauvignon, 12% merlot, 7% cabernet franc and 2% petit verdot. Better than 2022?" 95-96 points, James Suckling
"The 2023 Le Petit-Mouton is fabulous. It could easy be a Grand Vin at another address. Rich, ample and beautifully resonant in the glass, the 2023 impresses with its notable palate presence. Dark red cherry, pomegranate, cinnamon, rose petal and new leather are some of the many notes that build. The 2023 is seriously impressive. Wow! 2027-2043" 93-95 points, Antonio Galloni
"Slate and grip, clear again here that this is not the most exuberant of vintages, it's classical with a serious backbone. That doesn't mean that Petit Mouton isn't out to make you happy, and you can expect plenty of black chocolate, damson, black cherry, signature cocoa bean, espresso and salted cracker, but the tannins are pretty fierce. Harvest September 7 to 30 (but 2/3 of grapes coming in after September 21), 39% of production." 94 points, Jane Anson

Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux, Margaux 2023 6x75cl
The whole Marguax stable stood out when we tasted in April and Pavillon Rouge de Château Margaux 2023, was no exception this is a standout second wine from this prestigious estate. This vintage... Pravillon Rouge represents 30% of the production.
Very Chateau Margaux, with perfumed violets, currants and other berries, as well as oranges. Medium body with fine, caressing tannins that are tight and vivid. Racy and refined. Brightness and beauty to this second wine. Succulent. Refined. One of the best Pavillon Rouges in a while. 30% of the production. 79% cabernet sauvignon, 14% merlot, 5% petit verdot and 2% cabernet franc. 96-97 points James Suckling
The 2023 Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux accounts for 30% of this year's production. Deep garnet-purple in color, it pops from the glass with vibrant notes of red and black currants followed by hints of rosebud tea, crushed rocks, dried Provence herbs, and Sichuan pepper. The medium-bodied palate delivers an impressive mid-palate of ripe, juicy red and black berry flavors with soft fine-grained tannins and well-knit freshness, finishing with a spicy lift. The blend is 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, and 2% Cabernet Franc, with pH 3.60. 92-94+ Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW
Somewhat reminiscent of a cooler-fruited version of the lovely 2019, Château Margaux's 2023 Pavillon Rouge wafts from the glass with aromas of cassis, raspberries, licorice and pipe tobacco, deftly framed by creamy new oak. Medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with a sweet core of fruit, ripe tannins and a lively, succulent profile, it's a blend 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc that attained 13.3% alcohol. 92-94 points William Kelley
An aromatic punch of white and red roses, feels very much in the DNA of the estate, with perfume, richly nuanced cassis, bilberry, tobacco leaf, cigar box. Fine tannins, with energy and clear - and this is a 2nd wine that elevates the possibilities of the 2023 vintage. September 11 through to October 5 for harvest, 30% of the production in Pavillon. 93 points Jane Anson
The 2023 Pavillon Rouge is a deep, intense wine. Bright acids drive a core of dark red-toned fruit, spice and flowers. There's a bit more Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend, which makes structural elements stand out, but the tannins are on the lower side analytically. I would give this a few years to come together. Pavillon Rouge represents 30% of the château's production. 2025-2043 90-93 points Antonio Galloni
Representing 30% of the crop, the 2023 Pavillon Rouge has a very pure and floral bouquet, with crushed violets and blue fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly grainy tannins and moderate depth, quite linear and structured in style with white pepper and a touch of brine on the saline finish. There’s good length, even if it’s missing the amplitude of the previous vintage. 90-92 points Neal Martin
79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, 2% Cabernet Franc. 30% of the production. Cask sample. Perfumed, floral with silky tannins. Less power but more ‘Margaux’ than 2022. Soft attack, freshness and decent length. Overall good balance. (JL) 13% Drink 2030 – 2042 16.5 Points James Lawther MW
