Le Blanc d’Aiguilhe 2021

Le Blanc d’Aiguilhe 2021 is a striking example of modern white Bordeaux, produced by Château d’Aiguilhe from limestone rich vineyards in Castillon. The 2021 vintage was particularly successful... for dry white Bordeaux, producing wines with freshness, precision and remarkable balance. Made predominantly from Sauvignon Blanc with a small proportion of Sauvignon Gris, the wine combines the texture and generosity associated with fine white Bordeaux alongside a strong mineral backbone. The limestone terroir gives the wine its tension and saline character, while careful winemaking preserves aromatic purity and freshness. Tasting notes Le Blanc d’Aiguilhe 2021 shows aromas of citrus, grapefruit and white peach, layered with notes of flint, crushed stone and subtle floral hints. On the palate the wine is vibrant yet textured, with bright acidity supporting concentrated fruit and a pronounced mineral edge. There is both richness and tension, leading to a long, chalky and saline finish with hints of orange zest and grapefruit bitterness. Critic scores 94 points, James Suckling “This is really flinty, with both fresh and dried lemons and medium body. Tight with phenolics that hold it together. Racy finish. An excellent value sauvignon that delivers extremely high quality.” 93 points, Georgina Hindle, Decanter “Generous and weighty, lovely density and honey aspects… really approachable with such a generous but charming weight and tone of flavour. Mouthwatering, bright and clean… great balance of sapidity, acidity and fruit.” A refined and mineral driven white Bordeaux that combines freshness, texture and complexity, offering exceptional quality and ageing potential at its level.

Chateau Lafite Rothschild Premier Cru Classe, Pauillac 2005 6x75cl

Small special parcel of the excellent 2005 vintage by the Chateau where it has been aging gently in their cellars for the last 18+ years and will be in perfect condition with new labels and wooden... cases. This adds considerable value to the wine as it also guarantees its provenance. 2005 was one of the great vintages in Bordeaux and especially at Chateau Lafite where it was lauded by the critics with exceptional scores. ‘Absolutely marvellous wine…truly glorious’ – 19.5/20 Jancis Robinson ‘The palate has such freshness and density, with perfectly polished tannins. Slightly leathery, like a wonderful Hermes bag’ - 100 points James Suckling. “An incredible nose, so subtle with red fruits, mint, minerals, and all sorts of flowers give way to Cohiba cigar tobacco. The palate has such freshness and density, with perfectly polished tannins. Slightly leathery, like a wonderful Hermes bag” 100 points. James Suckling For the third year in a row, Bordeaux experienced drought. In other words, not a drop of rain from May to October. As always, however, our good vines, faithful and strong, adapted and overcame these difficult moments. The summer temperatures remained reasonable, and ripening was slow, calm and very complete. The grapes remained small and concentrated. Small quantities, high degrees, a perfect state of health. The most demanding of winegrowers was content. A famously perfect year throughout the growing season. This was the star of the tasting for pure, inherent quality - a truly glorious wine that will presumably continue to impress those lucky enough to taste it for many decades to come. Very dark, shaded crimson. The most gorgeous panoply of aromas on the nose - not yet knit but just starting to integrate. Exceptionally promising. Absolutely marvellous wine that was extremely difficult to spit. Fresh but ripe with great life and energy. The density of fruit covered the considerable charge of tannin. Such verve! So healthy. Some pure stoniness on the mid palate. 19.5/20 Jancis Robinson “Waves of saffron, truffle, black tea and earth set the pace for a remarkably balanced and aromatically-complex wine. This is still a baby at 17 years old, but has reached the level of Lafite character when all is elegance and finesse - the perfect example of how in Bordeaux they don't need excess to deliver something extraordinary. As things relax, you get a luscious, more concentrated core of cassis and bilberry fruit, with cedar, charcoal, violet, raspberry leaf and slate. Fine tannins hold it all in place, you could give this a long carafe to drink now, but the real magic needs another decade or so. Charles Chevallier technical director, and this was the last year with Emile Peynaud as consultant, before Jacques Boissenot took over in 2006. A pair of scales was chosen to decorate the bottle neck to reflect the balance of the vintage”. 98 points Jane Anson -

Chateau Lynch Bages 5eme Cru Classe, Pauillac 2021 300cl

Château Lynch-Bages is one of the most recognised estates of Pauillac and has been owned by the Cazes family since the 1930s. The property sits on the Bages plateau, where deep gravel soils provide... ideal conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon and help produce wines with the structure and character typical of the appellation. The vineyard is planted predominantly with Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Careful vineyard management and precise winemaking have helped establish Lynch Bages as one of the most consistent producers in the Médoc. The 2021 vintage in Bordeaux required careful work in the vineyard and a measured approach in the cellar. At Lynch Bages the result is a wine that reflects the strengths of the estate, showing purity of fruit, balance and classic Pauillac character. Château Lynch Bages 2021 tasting notes Château Lynch Bages 2021 shows aromas of cassis, blackberry and red plum, with notes of cedar, graphite and subtle spice. On the palate the wine is structured and refined, with fresh dark fruit supported by firm but well integrated tannins. The balance and precision of the wine give it the ability to develop further complexity in bottle. Large format This 300cl double magnum offers excellent ageing potential. Wines from Pauillac are known for evolving gracefully with time, and in large formats the wine matures more slowly, allowing the structure and classic Cabernet Sauvignon character to develop gradually. Drinking window 2028 to 2045 The 2021 vintage offers a clear reminder that the mark of a great estate is not simply producing outstanding wines in easy years, but making balanced and characterful wines in more challenging conditions. Château Lynch Bages 2021 is a fine wine bargain from one of Pauillac’s most dependable producers and an appealing option for collectors.
