Le Blanc d’Aiguilhe 2021 is a striking example of modern white Bordeaux, produced by Château d’Aiguilhe from limestone rich vineyards in Castillon. The 2021 vintage was particularly successful... for dry white Bordeaux, producing wines with freshness, precision and remarkable balance. Made predominantly from Sauvignon Blanc with a small proportion of Sauvignon Gris, the wine combines the texture and generosity associated with fine white Bordeaux alongside a strong mineral backbone. The limestone terroir gives the wine its tension and saline character, while careful winemaking preserves aromatic purity and freshness. Tasting notes Le Blanc d’Aiguilhe 2021 shows aromas of citrus, grapefruit and white peach, layered with notes of flint, crushed stone and subtle floral hints. On the palate the wine is vibrant yet textured, with bright acidity supporting concentrated fruit and a pronounced mineral edge. There is both richness and tension, leading to a long, chalky and saline finish with hints of orange zest and grapefruit bitterness. Chateau Cissac 2023 is an beautifully made Cru Bourgeoise claret with commendable reviews from the critics and released at only £8.00 per bottle in bond. With a large and loyal following in the UK... it is a wine we should all be buying this year – it is one of the bargains of the vintage ‘good aromatic length, very appealing finish, a very elegant and classic Cissac style’ Markus Del Monego MW ‘A good vintage at this estate’ Jane Anson Intense purple colour with violet hue. Very elegant and expressive nose, very pure fruit, blackcurrants and blackberries, hints of raspberries in the background and discreet toasting. A whiff of vanilla and discreet floral hints in the background. On the palate well-structured with balanced tannins, good aromatic length, very appealing finish, a very elegant and classic Cissac style, however interpreted in a contemporary way. 92 Points Markus Del Monego MW A good vintage at this estate, with vibrant red cherry and damson fruit, a good dollop of black pepper spice and fresh floral aromatics. It's a little austere but it's juicy and has sinewy tannins that suggest ageing ability. A success, with personality and a pretty feel. Owner Marie Vialard. 91 Points Jane Anson With vines near the Gironde Estuary far north in the Médoc, a textbook example of success from cooler Left Bank terroir in this vintage, with bright and brambly cassis and plum, delivered in a straightforward fashion. I like the mid-palate concentration and depth, although the finish is marked by somewhat strict tannins. In this case, barrel ageing in 25% new oak should smoothe such edges. 91 Points Decanter

Chateau Cissac, Haut-Medoc 1998

The 1998 Château Cissac is an excellent vintage claret, known for its ability to age well. This wine has a deep color and strong legs, indicating its quality. It has a rich and aromatic nose with... plenty of cherry fruit and a hint of maraschino cherry at the end. The tannins have softened over time, making the wine smooth and well-balanced. It is enjoyable now and will continue to improve with age.

Les Argileuses 2020 from Château Le Rey is a focused and expressive Merlot based wine from Castillon, one of the most exciting neighbouring appellations to Saint Emilion. The cuvée is sourced from... clay rich soils, as the name suggests, which bring depth, texture and a distinct sense of structure to the wine. The 2020 vintage is a strong year on the Right Bank, producing wines with both concentration and freshness. At Château Le Rey this results in a wine that combines ripe fruit with precision, reflecting both the quality of the vintage and the character of the terroir. Tasting notes Les Argileuses 2020 shows aromas of black cherry, plum and blackberry, with notes of violet, spice and a touch of graphite. On the palate the wine is rich and structured, with ripe dark fruit supported by fine tannins and a fresh, balanced acidity.
