Description

Château de Ferrand is a superb St Emilion Grand Cru who have made a wonderful, great value 2022 – “Silky, soft, lush, and polished on the palate. Superb ” Jeff Leve. Located at the highest point of Saint-Emilion the ” 2022 offers an incredibly pure, balanced, and structured style…the quality is there.”Jeb Dunnuck

Owned by the Bich family (of Bic pens fame) since 1978, however it is only relatively recently that the estate began to ramp things up. Since 2010 Pauline Bich Chandon-MoĂ«t and her husband Philippe have invested substantially to bring Château de Ferrand firmly into the 21st century, with important and design-led technical changes in the winery, environmental changes with organic practices being implemented in the vineyard (and also many architectural and artistic renovations). The 2022 vintage is the estate’s second vintage in its three-year conversion to organic certification; they hope to be fully certified by 2024.

In 2019 new cellars were opened along with renowned consultant Axel Marchal coming on board and following a study of the soils and subsoils, the entire vineyard has been restructured through a rigorous selection of grape varieties according to their ability to adapt to the terroir of each plot and this meticulous attention to detail shows!

Château Ferrand 2022 ” has plenty of personality and balance, takes the imprint of the vintage but gives it a limestone twist, and will age extremely well”Jane Anson

Château Grand Mayne is a Grand Cru Classé estate located on the limestone slopes of Saint Emilion, where clay and limestone soils produce wines of depth and structure. The vineyard is planted... predominantly with Merlot, supported by Cabernet Franc, giving the wine both richness and aromatic lift. The 2020 vintage has produced a powerful yet balanced wine, combining concentration with freshness. The wine is aged in French oak barrels, adding complexity while maintaining the purity of the fruit. Tasting notes Château Grand Mayne 2020 shows aromas of black cherry, plum and blackberry, layered with notes of spice, cedar and a touch of graphite. Chateau Pavie Premier Grand Cru Classe A, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2020

Château Pavie 2020 is one of the standout wines of the Saint Emilion vintage. Produced from vineyards on the limestone plateau and steep south facing slopes above the village, the wine combines... remarkable concentration with the freshness and precision that define the best wines of the year. Château Pavie sits on one of the most historic and dramatic vineyard sites in Saint Emilion. Under the ownership of the Perse family, the estate has been transformed into one of the most powerful and sought after wines on the Right Bank. Its promotion to Premier Grand Cru Classé A status in the 2012 Saint Emilion classification confirmed its position among the leading estates of Bordeaux. The vineyard covers around 37 hectares, planted predominantly with Merlot alongside Cabernet Franc and a small proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon. The limestone soils and steep slopes give Château Pavie 2020 its distinctive intensity and structure, producing a Saint Emilion that combines richness with remarkable ageing potential. The 2020 vintage in Saint Emilion produced wines of depth and freshness, and Château Pavie 2020 is among the most impressive of the year. The blend is approximately 50% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Franc and 18% Cabernet Sauvignon. Château Pavie 2020 tasting notes Château Pavie 2020 shows a deep colour with powerful aromas of plum, blackberry and dark cherry. Layers of liquorice, spice and crushed stone add further complexity. On the palate the wine is dense and structured yet beautifully balanced. The concentration is impressive but the freshness of the vintage keeps the wine precise and energetic. The tannins are refined and persistent, suggesting a long future in bottle. Critic scores 100 points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, The Wine Independent 99–100 points, James Suckling 99 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous 98 points, Neal Martin, Vinous Drinking window 2030 to 2060+ Château Pavie 2020 is a monumental Saint Emilion that will reward long term cellaring and is likely to rank among the great modern vintages produced at the estate.

Chateau Quintus, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2023 6x75cl

Quintus 2023 introduces a wine that reflects its heritage and benefits from the acquisition of Grand Pontet, as Domaine Clarence Dillon has added this wonderful terroir to the estate. Grand Pontet... brings limestone-dominated soil, enhancing the quality of this investment-grade wine. This top-range Saint-Émilion wine comes from land that borders the likes of Ausone. Audrey Bernard, who brings her expertise from Opus One, along with new director Mariette Veyssiere, has produced a great wine here. The 2023 Quintus is a rich, racy Grand Vin. Ample and resonant, the 2023 offers up copious dark-toned fruit, cedar, mint, tobacco, incense and French oak. There's tons of power and breadth but also more freshness than the early vintages, even if the oak is a touch present today. 2028 – 2048 94/96 Points Antonio Galloni This year, the 2023 Quintus is a well-performing wine, possessing a dense, complex bouquet of smoke, dark wild berries and licorice intertwined with a delicate, oaky frame. Fleshy and ample, medium to full-bodied, it’s perfectly balanced with a delicate, lively core of fruit and a long, ethereal and chalky finish. The influence of the Grand Pontet limestone plateau lends additional straightness and precision to this wine, a blend of 78.3% Merlot and 21.7% Cabernet Franc. 93/95 Points Yohan Castaing The purity of the fruit here is so impressive, with raspberry, lead pencil, cedar and sandalwood. Medium to full body with very fine and intense tannins that run the length of the wine. Mineral. Tensioned. Beautifully integrated and sophisticated at the end. Lightly salty. 78.3% merlot and 21.7% cabernet franc. 95/96 Points James Suckling Brambled fruit, richly textured, with juice that runs through the palate bringing you into the heart of St Emilion. Push and pull in texture between grilled smoky oak and slate-scraping pumice stone tannins, this takes its time to open, well judged and skilfully constructed. 43hl/h yield, 42ha in production since addition of Grand Pontet in 2021. Audrey Bernard joined the technical team in March 2021 direct from Opus One, plus new director Mariette Veyssiere. 94 Points Jane Anson

Le Dragon de Quintus, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2020

Deeply impressive, Dragon de Quintus from the Haut-Brion stable is a full-bodied, generous wine full of juicy black and red berries, supported by soft tannins and lovely freshness and perfect spice.... It is balanced, harmonious, and the 2020 surpasses all expectations. A standout. "A soft, round red with blackberry, chocolate and hints of spice and cedar. It’s medium-bodied with silky tannins and a juicy finish." 92–93 points, James Suckling "Composed of 84.7% Merlot and 15.3% Cabernet Franc, while possessing an alcohol of 15.2%, the 2020 Le Dragon de Quintus has a deep garnet-purple color and notions of plum preserves, kirsch, black raspberries and cinnamon toast, plus hints of mossy tree bark and incense. The full-bodied palate is jam-packed with juicy black and red berries, supported by soft tannins and lovely freshness, finishing long and spicy." 90–92 points, The Wine Advocate "Mid crimson with a pale rim. Light but warm, fully ripe impression on the nose. And a little marked acidity on the finish. The overall palate impression is not as rich as many of the 2020 St-Émilions I have been tasting, but then this is the first second wine I have tasted from the appellation in this vintage. Just a little stringy on the end." 16 points, Jancis Robinson
