Description

“Beautiful dark fruit with purity and freshness. Medium- to full-bodied, seamless and compact. Outstanding quality of tannins, so fine and dense. It’s muscular and taut on the mid-palate. Lingering, too. Plenty of energy. Close to 2022.” 93-94 Points James Suckling

“The 2023 Potensac is a seriously beautiful wine that shows just how complex and nuanced wines from this property can be. Crushed flowers, spice, red/purplish fruit, rose petal and mint are some of the notes that lift from the glass. Bright saline tones underpin the mid-palate and finish. This is one of the most complete young Potensacs I can recall tasting.” 91-93 Points Antonio Galloni

“The 2023 Potensac has a well-defined nose: predominantly black fruit, with touches of seaweed in the background. I warm to it more with acquaintance, and it gradually coheres. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins and a fine line of acidity. Silky-smooth in texture, you can tell that there is some quality new oak on the finish, which is simpatico with the fruit. It’s a good, solid Potensac that will require three or four years in bottle.” 90-92 Points Neal Martin

Chateau Berliquet Grand Cru Classe, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2023 12x75cl

Chateau Berliquet 2003 has just been released to considerable and growing critical acclaim, Purchased by Chanel in 2017 it is part of their now legendary triumvirate along with Chateau Canon &... Rauzan Segla all under superstar winemaker and manager Nicholas Audebert. On the plateau of St Emilion with a blend of 59% Merlot and 41% Cabernet Franc, the wine has fragrant flavours of wild blueberries, plum preserves, and kirsch, followed by a hint of lilac – it is bright and energetic, with intense red and black berry layers and super-silky tannins, finishing with wonderful length and tension in a word delicious. It will age well and is a shrewd investment grade wine (with a release price 21% down on last year) that is sure to follow the upward trajectory of Canon & Ruzan Segla. "A blend of 59% Merlot and 41% Cabernet Franc, the 2023 Berliquet has a pH of 3.53 and it is ageing in 10% amphorae and 90% oak barriques, of which 34% are new. It has a deep garnet-purple color and it hops from the glass with fragrant notes of wild blueberries, plum preserves, and kirsch, followed by hints of lilacs, fragrant soil, and cardamom. The medium-bodied palate is bright and energetic, with intense red and black berry layers and super-silky tannins, finishing with wonderful length and tension." 94-96 points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW "A plump and juicy wine with redcurrants and plums, as well as orange peel. Full and layered with round, juicy tannins and a flavorful finish. Generous fruit in this vintage." 94-95 points, James Suckling "The 2023 Berliquet is the first vintage produced in the estate's new winery, equipped with double the number of vats, permitting proper separation of blocks. That's especially important, as Berliquet is a more diverse terroir than Canon, and it can now be interpreted with much more precision. Offering up aromas of cherries, black raspberries, licorice and violets, it's medium to full-bodied, pillowy and layered, with a fleshy core of concentrated fruit, refined, chalky tannins and lively acids." 93-95 points, William Kelley "The 2023 Berliquet was picked 23 September to October 5 at 45hL/ha, matured in 34% new oak plus 10 amphorae. Initially, the nose is quite backward and doesn't want to play. Give it a few swirls and it opens to reveal black cherries, blackcurrant and a distant tang of oyster shell emanating from limestone soils. The palate is medium-bodied with a very harmonious entry. Finely weighted, tensile and slightly savory in style, this is very elegant, finishing with citrus-like freshness. Berliquet has definitely been in the ascendant in recent vintages, and this is another to add." 93-95 points, Neal Martin

Château Haut-Bailly is one of the most respected estates of Pessac Léognan and has long been known for producing wines of refinement and balance. The vineyard sits on deep gravel soils south of... Bordeaux, an area particularly well suited to Cabernet Sauvignon and capable of producing wines that age gracefully for decades. The estate has seen significant investment in recent years, including the construction of a new winery designed to enhance precision in both vineyard and cellar. The result is wines that combine the classic elegance of Haut Bailly with increasing purity and definition. The 2019 vintage in Pessac Léognan produced wines of excellent concentration balanced by freshness and structure. At Château Haut Bailly the result is a wine that reflects both the quality of the vintage and the finesse that defines the estate. Chateau Senejac, Haut-Medoc 2023 12x75cl

Château Sénéjac always punches above its weight as it does this year with a price of just £11.50 per bottle in bond. It has consistently been one of our top selling drinking wines from Bordeaux... and having tasted it Bordeaux 10 days ago it will be again this year – it was superb. A top Cru Bourgeoise owned by the Cordier family (Château Talbot,) the estate is overseen by Alfred Tesseron and the team from Pontet-Canet ( a 100 point wine this year). Soft but plentiful tannins from the first moment, this is lovely, with a real sense of grip and life, rises gently through the palate, touches of tomato leaf and liqourice root coupled with ruby brambled fruit and an overall sense of balance and cheer, Haut Medoc typicity, austere tannins on the finish, but in a way that suggests ability to age, and an ability to bring you out of the glass and into the place and the terroir. Nancy Bignon Cordier, also owner of Château Talbot in St Julien. A value, one to look out for. 92 Points Jane Anson "The 2023 Sénéjac has a somehow 'distant' bouquet that requires aeration to open up, with graphite/pencil shavings littered over the light black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a bright, slightly bitter entry that at least has decent tension. It is not a powerful Haut-Médoc—quite linear, strict and classical in style.. 90-92 points Neil Martin
