Chateau Potensac, Medoc 2023 12x75cl

“Beautiful dark fruit with purity and freshness. Medium- to full-bodied, seamless and compact. Outstanding quality of tannins, so fine and dense. It’s muscular and taut on the mid-palate.... Lingering, too. Plenty of energy. Close to 2022.” 93-94 Points James Suckling “The 2023 Potensac is a seriously beautiful wine that shows just how complex and nuanced wines from this property can be. Crushed flowers, spice, red/purplish fruit, rose petal and mint are some of the notes that lift from the glass. Bright saline tones underpin the mid-palate and finish. This is one of the most complete young Potensacs I can recall tasting.” 91-93 Points Antonio Galloni “The 2023 Potensac has a well-defined nose: predominantly black fruit, with touches of seaweed in the background. I warm to it more with acquaintance, and it gradually coheres. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins and a fine line of acidity. Silky-smooth in texture, you can tell that there is some quality new oak on the finish, which is simpatico with the fruit. It's a good, solid Potensac that will require three or four years in bottle.” 90-92 Points Neal Martin

Premier Grand Cru Classé Château La Gaffelière is amongst the finest in Saint-Émilion. Clos La Gaffelière is the estate’s excellent second wine. "Love the bright fruit here, bright, zesty, real orange peel and tar, heavy spice but plenty of love. 45hl/ha, harvest September 7 to 29. 50% new oak, rest in stainless steel." 92 points, Jane Anson

Clos Rene, Pomerol 2023 6x75cl

Clos René hails the western slope of the Pomerol appellation’s plateau, with an average vine age of 35 years, offering sublime Pomerol character at stunning value. "... this Pomerol does deliver... the elegance and purity I've come to expect on the finish. I suspect that the aromatics will meliorate during its élevage, and it will constitute a very pleasant, if early-drinking Clos René." 92-94 points, Antonio Galloni

Les Argileuses, Chateau Le Rey, Castillon-Cotes de Bordeaux 2020 150cl

Les Argileuses 2020 from Château Le Rey is a focused and expressive Merlot based wine from Castillon, one of the most exciting neighbouring appellations to Saint Emilion. The cuvée is sourced from... clay rich soils, as the name suggests, which bring depth, texture and a distinct sense of structure to the wine. The 2020 vintage is a strong year on the Right Bank, producing wines with both concentration and freshness. At Château Le Rey this results in a wine that combines ripe fruit with precision, reflecting both the quality of the vintage and the character of the terroir. Tasting notes Les Argileuses 2020 shows aromas of black cherry, plum and blackberry, with notes of violet, spice and a touch of graphite. On the palate the wine is rich and structured, with ripe dark fruit supported by fine tannins and a fresh, balanced acidity. The clay soils bring a certain density and depth, leading to a long and persistent finish. Large format In magnum, the wine will develop more slowly, allowing the fruit and structure to integrate gradually while preserving freshness over time. Drinking window 2026 to 2040 A well made Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux offering depth, balance and a clear expression of its clay based terroir, with both immediate appeal and ageing potential.

Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux, Margaux 2023 6x75cl

The whole Marguax stable stood out when we tasted in April and Pavillon Rouge de Château Margaux 2023, was no exception this is a standout second wine from this prestigious estate. This vintage... Pravillon Rouge represents 30% of the production. Very Chateau Margaux, with perfumed violets, currants and other berries, as well as oranges. Medium body with fine, caressing tannins that are tight and vivid. Racy and refined. Brightness and beauty to this second wine. Succulent. Refined. One of the best Pavillon Rouges in a while. 30% of the production. 79% cabernet sauvignon, 14% merlot, 5% petit verdot and 2% cabernet franc. 96-97 points James Suckling The 2023 Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux accounts for 30% of this year's production. Deep garnet-purple in color, it pops from the glass with vibrant notes of red and black currants followed by hints of rosebud tea, crushed rocks, dried Provence herbs, and Sichuan pepper. The medium-bodied palate delivers an impressive mid-palate of ripe, juicy red and black berry flavors with soft fine-grained tannins and well-knit freshness, finishing with a spicy lift. The blend is 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, and 2% Cabernet Franc, with pH 3.60. 92-94+ Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW Somewhat reminiscent of a cooler-fruited version of the lovely 2019, Château Margaux's 2023 Pavillon Rouge wafts from the glass with aromas of cassis, raspberries, licorice and pipe tobacco, deftly framed by creamy new oak. Medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with a sweet core of fruit, ripe tannins and a lively, succulent profile, it's a blend 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc that attained 13.3% alcohol. 92-94 points William Kelley An aromatic punch of white and red roses, feels very much in the DNA of the estate, with perfume, richly nuanced cassis, bilberry, tobacco leaf, cigar box. Fine tannins, with energy and clear - and this is a 2nd wine that elevates the possibilities of the 2023 vintage. September 11 through to October 5 for harvest, 30% of the production in Pavillon. 93 points Jane Anson The 2023 Pavillon Rouge is a deep, intense wine. Bright acids drive a core of dark red-toned fruit, spice and flowers. There's a bit more Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend, which makes structural elements stand out, but the tannins are on the lower side analytically. I would give this a few years to come together. Pavillon Rouge represents 30% of the château's production. 2025-2043 90-93 points Antonio Galloni Representing 30% of the crop, the 2023 Pavillon Rouge has a very pure and floral bouquet, with crushed violets and blue fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly grainy tannins and moderate depth, quite linear and structured in style with white pepper and a touch of brine on the saline finish. There’s good length, even if it’s missing the amplitude of the previous vintage. 90-92 points Neal Martin 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, 2% Cabernet Franc. 30% of the production. Cask sample. Perfumed, floral with silky tannins. Less power but more ‘Margaux’ than 2022. Soft attack, freshness and decent length. Overall good balance. (JL) 13% Drink 2030 – 2042 16.5 Points James Lawther MW
