Description

Exceptional value. A must for rosé lovers.

Made in a classic salmon-pink Provencal style, ROSA is one of the greatest rosé wines you can buy at this price point. There is incredible elegance and depth, freshness and acidity from altitude and gorgeous subtle fruit.

Sitting proudly on the Umbrian/Tuscan border, high on the Apennines at 750m above sea level – La Palerna produces some of the greatest wines and the Umbrian price tag is something we all benefit from – this is an Italian region where your money goes a long way. We have just 50 cases of this exceptional fresh, crisp and elegant Italian rosé.

Tasting Notes

The perfect fresh and crisp rosé for spring/summer drinking. La Palerna’s altitude provides the wine with exceptional acidity and elegance. This is so gloriously combined with subtle ripe red fruits – strawberries, orange, light floral notes and a harmonious and lasting long finish.

A blend of 50% Pinot Noir and 50% Sangiovese.
Alcohol is at 12.5%.

La Palerna, Rosso Valdimonte 2018

This is a UK exclusive with a phenomenal price tag. Wines like this are what working in the wine trade is all about - a small volume of exceptional, mature red wine parcel from an artisanal... producer at an incredible price tag. A blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Pinot Noir offers a deep ruby colour, with aromas of ripe red berries, wild herbs, violets, and subtle spice. On the palate, it’s fresh and medium-bodied, with soft tannins and a clean, gently savoury finish. La Palerna sits high at 550-600m right on the Tuscan/Umbrian border. Thankfully for all of us, they are on the Umbrian side of the border and the price reflects this. At this altitude, the wines have a wonderful freshness and elegance. Yields are low, grapes are hand harvested and sorted, and such care and precision are taken in the winemaking which is evident in the quality of the wine. We have visited Bordeaux classified growths and Grand Cru Burgundies who take the same level of care in production. The overriding reason for all of this is perhaps down to winemaker extraordinaire, Mauro Monicchi who has worked across Bordeaux and the South of France, he now oversees winemaking for first class estates across Tuscany, namely Montalcino and Montepulciano. The quality of wines can also be put down to owner Luigi Merendelli’s philosophy to produce “only great wines”. I can confirm they do just that across the board, but this red is a home run at this price. The wonderful thing about central Italian reds are they are incredibly versatile when pairing with food and can be drunk all year around, indeed these are the wines to open at dinner parties or have at weddings.

La Palerna, Rosso Valdimonte 2022

Rosso Valdimonte 2022 from La Palerna is a vibrant and expressive red from the hills of Umbria, close to the Tuscan border. Produced from organically grown grapes, the wine combines Sangiovese,... Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, offering a balanced and approachable style with both freshness and depth. Umbria has become increasingly recognised for offering strong quality and value, and Rosso Valdimonte is a clear example of this. The 2022 vintage shows a generous yet well balanced profile, making it an easy drinking and versatile red suitable for a wide range of occasions. Tasting notes Rosso Valdimonte 2022 shows aromas of red berry fruit, cherry and plum, with notes of spice and a touch of tobacco. On the palate the wine is medium bodied and fresh, with juicy fruit supported by soft tannins and lively acidity. The Sangiovese brings brightness and lift, while Merlot adds smoothness and Cabernet Sauvignon provides structure, leading to a clean and balanced finish. A well made and highly drinkable Umbrian red that combines freshness, balance and versatility, ideal for both casual drinking and food pairing.

Chateau La Tour de By, Medoc 2020

Château La Tour de By 2020 is a well regarded Cru Bourgeois estate in the northern Médoc, close to the Gironde estuary. The vineyards are planted on gravel and clay soils, well suited to Cabernet...
