Samuel Billaud, Petit Chablis 2023
From a small, 1.5 hectare vineyard just above the grands crus of Vaudésir and Les Clos and by far the finest Petit Chablis we know. The wine is precise, elegant and from the best terroir in Chablis.... Crisp and pure with citrus fruits and a touch of lime, with excellent minerality and a touch of sea salt on the finish. A scintillating, steely, splendid example of unoaked chardonnay. Electric and simply crackling with the tension and vibrancy found in Chablis’s very best wines. Drink 2024-2029.

Samuel Billaud, Petit Chablis 2024
Samuel Billaud Petit Chablis 2024 is an outstanding example of Petit Chablis from one of the region’s most highly regarded producers. Domaine Samuel Billaud has rapidly established itself among the... top names in Chablis, producing wines known for their precision, minerality and purity of fruit.
The 2024 vintage is an excellent year in Chablis for quality, although quantities are significantly reduced, making allocations particularly tight. This Petit Chablis is sourced from vineyards situated on the upper plateau above Chablis, close to the Grand Cru hillside and overlooking some of the appellation’s most famous vineyards. The proximity to the Grand Cru terroir is reflected in the wine’s precision and mineral character, giving a style far beyond what is normally expected from Petit Chablis.
The cooler elevated sites help preserve freshness and acidity, while the Kimmeridgian influence in the soils contributes to the distinctive saline and chalky profile associated with the best wines of Chablis.
Tasting notes
Samuel Billaud Petit Chablis 2024 shows aromas of citrus, green apple and white flowers, with notes of oyster shell and wet stone.
On the palate the wine is bright and focused, with crisp acidity supporting pure citrus fruit and a pronounced mineral edge. There is impressive tension and energy throughout, leading to a long, clean and saline finish.
A remarkably precise Petit Chablis that reflects both the quality of the 2024 vintage and the rise of Samuel Billaud as one of Chablis’ leading producers, offering notable freshness and minerality with strong typicity.

Samuel Billaud, Chablis Premier Cru. Vaulorent 2021 12x75cl
The Billaud-Simon Vaulorent is produced with bought-in grapes from a long-term contract. Typical of Vaulorent, there is plenty of drive here. A classy premier cru which will need at least a year to show its best. Spicy, zesty notes to finish, with a touch of orange peel. Decanter

Samuel Billaud, Chablis Premier Cru, Sechet Vieilles Vignes 2022
“A special bottling from vines more than 90 years old: a vineyard marked by a high proportion of stones and old rootstock…it's really very classy and long. A great combination of pear fruit,... touch of sunny peach on the palate with abundant minerality to finish. Drink 2025-22031 95 points Decanter
“…this could be from nowhere else but Chablis, particularly with the prominent quinine influence that carries over to the dense, palate soaking and powerful yet refined flavors that deliver stunningly good length. This is terrific ... In sum, if you can find it, buy it.”
