Carmes de Rieussec, Sauternes 2018
As the second wine of Château Rieussec, Carmes de Rieussec 2018 embodies the elegance of Sauternes with a harmonious balance of richness and freshness. Crafted from Sémillon (89%), Muscadelle (6%),... and Sauvignon Blanc (5%), this vintage benefits from noble rot, enhancing its depth and complexity. Aged for 12 months in barrels, it reveals aromas of apricot, candied melon, and subtle oak influence, leading to a silky palate with citrus and spice layers. The finish is long, honeyed, and well-defined, promising further development over the years.
Acclaimed by Lisa Perrotti-Brown (The Wine Advocate), who describes it as:
"Pale lemon-gold colored, the 2018 Carmes de Rieussec is a little youthfully mute to begin, offering glimpses at lemon meringue pie, lime cordial, and beeswax scents with touches of baking bread and marzipan. The palate is appealingly rich and packed with citrus and spice layers, finishing long and honeyed."
Perfectly paired with blue cheese, fruity desserts, or enjoyed on its own, this Sauternes is best served chilled at 8–10°C to showcase its refined complexity

Château Notre Dame, Montagne Saint Emilion 2018 6x75cl
Château Notre Dame is a classic Saint Emilion satellite wine from the appellation of Montagne Saint Emilion, an area renowned for producing Merlot dominated wines with much of the charm and... character of neighbouring Saint Emilion at a more accessible level. Presented in original wooden cases of 6 bottles, it is an impressive choice for both drinking and gifting.
Produced predominantly from Merlot grown on clay and limestone soils, the wine reflects the generosity and elegance that have made the Right Bank of Bordeaux so popular. The style is approachable yet structured, offering immediate enjoyment while retaining enough depth to develop further in bottle.
Tasting notes
Château Notre Dame shows an intense crimson colour with aromas of blackberry, black cherry and ripe plum, supported by subtle oak and toasted notes.
On the palate the wine is smooth and velvety, with ripe dark fruit supported by supple tannins and fresh acidity. There is a lovely balance between richness and freshness, leading to a complex and persistent finish.
The wine pairs particularly well with roast lamb, duck, game terrine, red meats and mature cheeses.
A beautifully presented Montagne Saint Emilion that offers classic Right Bank character, generous Merlot fruit and excellent drinkability. Delivered in original wooden cases of 6 bottles.

La Palerna, Rosso Valdimonte 2018
This is a UK exclusive with a phenomenal price tag.
Wines like this are what working in the wine trade is all about - a small volume of exceptional, mature red wine parcel from an artisanal... producer at an incredible price tag.
A blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Pinot Noir offers a deep ruby colour, with aromas of ripe red berries, wild herbs, violets, and subtle spice. On the palate, it’s fresh and medium-bodied, with soft tannins and a clean, gently savoury finish.
La Palerna sits high at 550-600m right on the Tuscan/Umbrian border. Thankfully for all of us, they are on the Umbrian side of the border and the price reflects this. At this altitude, the wines have a wonderful freshness and elegance. Yields are low, grapes are hand harvested and sorted, and such care and precision are taken in the winemaking which is evident in the quality of the wine. We have visited Bordeaux classified growths and Grand Cru Burgundies who take the same level of care in production. The overriding reason for all of this is perhaps down to winemaker extraordinaire, Mauro Monicchi who has worked across Bordeaux and the South of France, he now oversees winemaking for first class estates across Tuscany, namely Montalcino and Montepulciano. The quality of wines can also be put down to owner Luigi Merendelli’s philosophy to produce “only great wines”. I can confirm they do just that across the board, but this red is a home run at this price. The wonderful thing about central Italian reds are they are incredibly versatile when pairing with food and can be drunk all year around, indeed these are the wines to open at dinner parties or have at weddings.
